Standard affiliate links

The simplest way of sending affiliate traffic to micrologus.com is to include your affiliate ID in the links to any web page on micrologus.com, as in these examples:

Example 1: MTC home page

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center

HTML source:
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center {{/textarea>

Example 2: Sight-Reading Method page

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Sight-Reading Method

HTML source:
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Sight-Reading Method {{/textarea>

And so on -- you can turn any web page on micrologus.com into an affiliate link by adding ?a=[#A_ID#] to the URL.

Here are your affiliate links to the most important pages on MTC's web site (i.e. the home page and the courses pages):

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Home page
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - Home page {{/textarea>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Improvisation By Degrees course
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - Improvisation By Degrees course {{/textarea>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Sight-Reading Method course
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - Sight-Reading Method course {{/textarea>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Absolute Fretboard Trainer course
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - Absolute Fretboard Trainer course {{/textarea>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Guitar and Bass Ear Trainer course
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - Guitar and Bass Ear Trainer course {{/textarea>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Guitar Speed Trainer course
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - Guitar Speed Trainer course {{/textarea>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - Guitar Scales Method course
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - Guitar Scales Method course {{/textarea>

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center - 100 Chords Method course
{{textarea name=sample rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]">Musician Training Center - 100 Chords Method course {{/textarea>

A few tips:

  • If you are not sure of where to send your visitors, use MTC's home page (i.e. use the link of example 1 above)

  • If you have a web site with pages on various musical subjects such as scales, chords, improvisation, ear training, etc. then it may be a good idea to send interested visitors to the corresponding specific courses on MTC.

  • To get the best possible results as an affiliate, provide the best possible service to your web visitors. Advise them honestly, explain how MTC can benefit them, and then invite them to try it for themselves.

  • Successful affiliates are often themselves happy users of the products. Nothing works better than when you genuinely like something and want to tell others about it...

Banners

Here are some ready-made banners that you can use. Simply copy and paste the HTML code into your web pages, and you're up and running.

Your affiliate ID is already included in the HTML codes.

Different sizes are suitable for different page positions. (top, side bars, bottom, etc.) Naturally, the more visible a banned in a web page, the more chances that it will be noticed and clicked by interested visitors.

Note that the content of the ads will change automatically from time to time as we rotate the ads, add new content, test and improve, etc. [#AFFILIATE_BANNERS#]

Direct download of MTC installer

You can also let Internet visitors on your web site download MTC's installer (Windows version) without leaving your web page.

It works like this. On your web page you write about MTC and provide a link to download the installer. The visitor remains on your web site, but the downloaded file contains your affiliate ID. The visitor installs MTC, your affiliate ID is also installed, and when the user later creates an MTC account, your affiliate ID is attached to the account the first time it is used by the program.

Here is your direct download link:

[#A_ID#]/MusicianTrainingCenter-setup.exe"> Download Musician Training Center (Windows installer)

HTML source:
{{textarea name=dd1 rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]/MusicianTrainingCenter-setup.exe"> Download Musician Training Center (Windows installer) {{/textarea>

Here are some important points about using the direct download link:

  • One advantage for the affiliate is that the visitor remains on the affiliate's web site. Normally, sending a visitor to an affiliate link means losing that visitor, but with the MTC's direct download link the user gets tagged with the affiliate ID without even leaving the affiliate's web page.
  • Another advantage is that having the affiliate ID already embedded in the MTC software is a pretty strong guarantee that when the user creates a new account, the affiliate ID will be reliably attached to it.
  • Yet another advantage is that more than one person may end up using that program once it is installed. Therefore more than one new account may be acquired by the affiliate.
  • On the other hand, one disadvantage is that the user who downloads MTC from an affiliate page will be less motivated to give the program a good try. Statistics show that very often people download software but never get around to install it or try it. People who download the software from our web site also usually read several pages, look at some graphics, screen shots, etc. which can make them more interested in trying the program seriously. On the other hand, if someone downloads a program from a link with little additional explanations, chances are they may even forget about it after a few seconds.
  • The best way to minimize this disadvantage is to include plenty of explanations, screen shots, etc. near the direct download links. The goal is not just to get people to download the program. The goal is to get people to download the program with some excitement -- with the feeling that they may have just found something really useful, something serious, something they can't wait to try.
  • Affiliates may freely copy any text and images from micrologus.com to use in their web pages to better explain and describe the program.
  • Even better, if the affiliate is also an user of the program, would be to write a frank personal review of the program. Write honestly, in some detail, about what you like and don't like about it. Then provide the direct download link for the readers to try it themselves.
  • Notice that the direct download link method only works for the Windows installer. To make sure Mac users don't get left out, you should also include a second link to the Mac version, using a standard web link like this:

    Example:

[#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center (Mac OSX version)

    HTML source:
    {{textarea name=dd1 rows=3 cols=80> [#A_ID#]"> Musician Training Center (Mac OSX version) {{/textarea>

Image Links

Affiliates can place in their web pages the links to images which are hosted on micrologus.com, and which contain the affiliate ID.

When a visitor opens that web page -- which contains the image and some text about the Musician Training center -- and their web browser loads the image from micrologus.com, our web server saves the IP number and browser "signature" of that visitor, together with the affiliate ID which is included in the image URL.

If the visitor then comes to our web site, even without using an affiliate link, our web server notices that it is the same IP number and browser which previously loaded that image, and therefore connects the corresponding affiliate ID to that visitor, and if the visitor later creates an MTC account, the affiliate ID is attached to it.

Here are some images you can use, already including your affiliate ID:

Unique links

Affiliates often place their links, images, direct download links, affiliate coupons, etc. in multiple places -- on different web pages, in emails, in forums and blog posts, etc.

Now, in cases like that, the affiliate may like to know which of these links are producing better results than others. For example, are you getting new users from the links in the web pages? Or from your mailing list? Or from the direct download links?

To answer those questions our system allows you to make each affiliate link unique, so that when you visit the Sales page you can see exactly which link has earned you new users and sales commissions.

To make each link unique, wherever your affiliate ID appears in the URLs, you can add to it a special tracking number of your choice.

For example, your standard affiliate link to MTC's home page is this:

    http://www.micrologus.com/?a=[#A_ID#]

Now, for example, you could put this link in one page of your web site, adding the tracking code ".1" to your affiliate ID [#A_ID#]. The URL then becomes:

    http://www.micrologus.com/?a=[#A_ID#].1

You could then put another affiliate link in another page, with the code "2":

    http://www.micrologus.com/?a=[#A_ID#].2

And maybe in yet another page, with the code "3":

    http://www.micrologus.com/?a=[#A_ID#].3

And if you use direct download links in another page, you could use the code "4" like this:

    http://www.micrologus.com/dd/[#A_ID#].4/MusicianTrainingCenter-setup.exe

And if you also sent that direct download link to a mailing list, you could mark it with yet another code, "5"

    http://www.micrologus.com/dd/[#A_ID#].5/MusicianTrainingCenter-setup.exe

And so on... Basically, wherever your affiliate ID goes, you can add to it a dot and another number of your choice. This also works in image links and free product coupons. For example, if you have a product coupon code ABC-[#A_ID#]-555111 you can add a unique tracking code (let's say "12") after your affiliate ID, making it: ABC-[#A_ID#].12-555111

In this way, when users follow those links or use those coupons, and later create an MTC account for themselves, those accounts are not only tagged with your affiliate ID, but also with the tracking codes that you have assigned to your various links.

Afterwards, when you check your user acquisition and earning reports in your Sales page, you will be able to see exactly which links have earned you the various users and sales.

To sum things up:

  • Wherever you affiliate ID is present, you can add a dot and a number of your choice (max 8 digits) to make the link unique
  • When you check the sales reports page, you can see which link was used by the visitors who later created an MTC account.
  • You can then experiment, for example, placing links in different web pages, and see which pages produce better results.
  • You can also compare the performance of standard affiliate links against the performance of direct download links, or against free product coupons, etc. and see what works best.
  • Using unique links is optional. But if you plan to be an active MTC affiliate and place links in more that one place, we believe that spending a few minutes to add unique codes to the different links will be a good investment of your time. Using unique links will tell you what works best in a measurable way and will help yo focus your efforts there.

Multiple affiliate ID conflict

It may happen that a visitor comes to Micrologus.com through a link of affiliate A, and later on come again through the link of affiliate B, and in that case the question is, who gets the credit, affiliate A or affiliate B?

In most cases, the most recent affiliate link that was used by the user will determine which affiliate ID is used when the new user creates an MTC account. For example, if the user first uses affiliate link A and then uses affiliate link B, then the "B" will replace "A" in the tracking system, and if at that point the user creates an MTC account, it will be tagged with "B".

In other cases, however, the situation can be more complex. For example, what if a user follows the link from affiliate A, then uses the direct download technique to download MTC from affiliate B's web page, and finally uses an affiliate coupon from affiliate C to claim some free tools?

In such cases, which affiliate gets the credit may change from case to case. Different versions of the MTC software may check for affiliate references in a different order. Future versions of the web site may also check for affiliate references in a different order. Things will also depend on whether the user, for example, creates the new account after opening a bookmarked page in the web browser (in which case cookies will take priority) or whether the user comes to the account creation web page after clicking on a "create free account" link in the MTC software (in which case, the direct-download affiliate ID which was embedded in the MTC software will take priority). Or alternatively, the user may create his new MTC account on another computer altogether, in which case the account will not be immediately tagged with an affiliate ID, but when the user will use an affiliate coupon code to claim a free product, his user account will then be tagged with the affiliate ID contained in the coupon.

We estimate that such multi-affiliate conflicts will only happen rarely, and even then, in the long run things will even out for everyone.

In any case, it should be clarified that once an account has been tagged with an affiliate ID, that is final. In particular, using a free-product coupon will tag the account with the embedded affiliate ID only if the account is still untagged. If the account is already tagged with an affiliate ID, the coupon will have no effect on that.
